LINCOLN Uses Past As Inspiration For 2013 LINCOLN MKZ

When the auto maker was designing the 2013 LINCOLN MKZ concept, they didn't only look to future needs of drivers, they went back to the past for inspiration. It's nothing new, the current run of MKZ's at Gurley Leep Ford LINCOLN also harkens back to previous vehicles.

Many are wishful for a "simpler time" when technology and the hassle of everyday life seemed much more bearable. Getting into a modern LINCOLN may also feel like this one day, which is why the company has streamlined with vehicle design inside and out. So, what classic cars did LINCOLN check out from their archives?

The 1938 LINCOLN Continental, for the new car's lower roof and minimal chrome accents.

1956 LINCOLN Continental coupe, with a sloping down rear design, which was contrary to the large finned cars of the day.

1961 Continental convertible with the "crisp, angular styling and rear-hinged doors gave it a modern look."1

1969 LINCOLN Mark III, otherwise known as a full-size coupe, will lead to more full-sized two-doors from the company.
